stripes and all!

i was really inspired by a tutorial i found on the net by Nick Campbell. its a simple technique yet is so beautifully done. Of course i had to give it a go my myself.
Below is what i have done so far.

finally hell is done!

This is the final render of hell for the music video. I think it would be more interesting to re-make it in maya instead of after effects and maybe i will do that in the future.

Music video and other news

Been a while since i've undated this blog but there will be a lot of updates comming soon. With a bout 3 mounths til i start my 3rd year, I have been working on some personal projects.
At the moment i have been re-writting the wendigo script and should have a 1st draft of it up soon. I have also been helping a friend out with a music video for "Heaven and Hell" latest single.

The video is completly fan made and my friend is only doing the music vid because the admin of the website liked his previous fan videos. also he is in touch with the band, so fingers crossed we get some good press. my job on the video is visual effects and maybe the odd acting. we just finished the final shots today and once my mate has finished editing the footage together i will then add the visuals. this includes colour correcting the sky, animating a smoky like monster, some matte painting and some face warping.
very basic stuff but its good experience and practic that will serve me well in the future. the idea behind the video involes a character desending into hell after finding the bible black.

above is a smoke test. i made it using particles in after effects.
Below is a rendered frame from the matte painting that is set in hell.

Below is a concept painting of how i original visualised hell looking like.

Characterisation & Performance

For the last couple of months i have been working on this character animation project. The project has not been enjoyable for me as i found it very difficult to animate the rigged characters. the acting shot below; i found easyier and was more enjoyable to do. Unfortunatly the day before final hand in, my laptop crashed and erased most of the work i had done on the acting piece. i was lucky however to salvage the first 4 seconds of what i had done. the audio is taken from evil dead 3: army of darkness. even though i have lost my work, i have decided to redo the project again for my own personal reasons. i found the acting shot a lot of fun and was able to be more creative with it. also after talking with my tutor sean, i have been allowed a few extra days to finish it off.

as well as animating an acting piece we also had to animate a rigged character on an obstacle course and a walk cycle with attidude. the obstacle course was extremely hard to do and with time running out i worked on polishing up on one piece of the obstacle that looked good.

thanks to ben i was able to use him as reference footage for the walk. i wanted to keep the walk very simple but with subtle attidude in his walk. in the end he can can out looking like he was doing a power walk. the main trouble i had was animating the arms. i wanted them to have a real flow to their moment but i dont think it quite worked out.

Below were the first attempts of animating him.

this is the final walk.
